Relief printmaking (linocut and woodcut) is method of carving an image into a block that you can print again and again. It is one of the most ancient and popular printmaking methods for its simplicity, cost-effectiveness, and powerful, graphic imagery. Beginning with linoleum blocks, we will discuss tools, carving techniques, hand-printing, and printing on the studio press. Later in the course, students will explore color printing and have the option to try woodcut as well. All are welcome, whether you are an absolute beginner or have some printmaking experience.

Embark on a creative journey in woodturning! Woodturning involves shaping wood on a lathe to create items such as bowls, vases, and pens. In this course you and your classmates will rotate between woodturning and tool sharpening, engaging in hands-on learning experiences. You will learn essential techniques, culminating in four unique projects. Whether a complete novice or having some experience, this course offers the foundational skills and confidence to pursue woodturning as a rewarding hobby in a safe and supportive environment.
No Class 11/25.This class is held at The Bodgery, 740 Oscar Ave, Madison. Wear closed toe shoes and long pants. No jewelry between elbow and fingertips, no long necklaces or ties. Long hair must be pulled back. Students must be able to stand at a woodturning lathe for at least 90 minutes. All supplies included.
