Sewing   

In this course, students will construct a ‘Shacket’ [Shirt+Jacket] project from a commercial pattern that is at the intermediate level. Topics include: collars, sleeves, patch pockets, buttonholes, and some minor alterations for proper garment fitting. Individual help is given along with demonstration of techniques to complete each aspect of garment sewing. Basic sewing experience is helpful.

Each month, the Sewing Lab opens its doors for studio time — bring your own project or try something new. Whether you’re hemming pants, quilting, mending, crafting gifts, or building on your basic skills, this is a welcoming place to explore your skills at your own pace.

Take your sewing machine or serger out of storage—or out of the box—and learn how to use it with confidence. You'll become familiar with your machine's parts, basic operation, maintenance, stitching techniques, troubleshooting, and finishing methods. Through several hands-on, skill-building projects, you'll gain the knowledge and confidence to operate your machine independently and be ready to tackle future sewing projects.
